We joined ranks with a busload of volunteers from the League of Pissed Off Voters and headed east over the Sierras to the city of Reno, Nevada. Some fabulous donor had provided The League with the bus and hotel rooms at Circus Circus for all forty-eight voter registration volunteers! We arrived late Friday night and got in a little time at the casino. Hey they even had a game called Progressive Poker!
Saturday morning we went to a press conference organized by the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada and the Nevada Young Activist Project. From there we teamed up with other local volunteers and headed out into neighborhoods where we went door to door registering voters. After a quick lunch break we hit downtown Reno doing voter registration at the Cinco de Mayo festival. Twenty-four hours later we were on our way back to SF and Reno had 302 new voters! We're planning on heading back there in June and you know you wanna come...
