Why am I taking a trip? During the past two years, I've become very frustrated with the Bush Administration's aggressive assault on our environment. As I've become re-engaged in our political process I've become infuriated with Bush's broad assault on the many progressive rights that make our country so great....civil rights, women's rights, working rights, environmental rights, gay rights, constitutional rights, and the right not to be misled into placing our uniformed young men and women in needless jeopardy. Bush is certain to win here in Texas, but I am determined to work towards precluding his winning in the key swing states that we can visit with our Driving Votes team here in Texas.

Austin-Dallas Express - August 08, 2004

Today we held our first organizing meeting in Dallas (we had one in Austin last weekend) and my wife and I drove from Austin to take part. It’s a 3 1/2 hour trip from our south Austin home, which is just around the corner here in Texas! The meeting was held at a Spring Creek BBQ, which serves up some great BBQ! As we pulled into the lot, we made a point to park close to some cars with W 04 stickers...somehow our "Nobody Died When Clinton Lied" bumper sticker really gets those W supporters going (my wife and I can be very mischievous). The meeting was great; we had five wonderfully motivated people show up and discussed the key items for our Driving Votes Texas efforts:
1. Planning voter registration drives
2. Planning voter organizing and GOTV
3. Raising funds to help with the above efforts
4. Recruiting additional volunteers

It made for a long day, but the success of the meeting and the satisfaction of knowing that I've taken another step in assisting in the defeat of the most horrible administration in my lifetime (including Nixon) made it a most satisfying day indeed!
