I'm working on a documentary film: I shot digital video and Super 8 the last days before the election day, on election day, and the day after. It was a road trip video diary of my trip to Vegas with my friend and fellow filmmaker Johl Smilowsky. The film will feature Sean Penn (who happened to join the team we were following knocking on doors), hundreds of volunteers of Drivingvotes.org (you! you! you!) and dozens of people in crazy costumes at 5 AM on the Vegas strip, from Austin Powers to two Marines just arrived from Iraq and waiting to be sent back into harm's way... The Vegas strip has never seen such deep conversations about politics, democracy, radical oppositions that are yet respectful, and how the heck to break the bipartisan system. Despite the election results, you all proved that the grassroots movement in America is the strongest in history, and as somebody said to me, "that is not going to go away."

About the film: We'll edit it on our spare time. As soon as it's ready we'll let you know. Then we'll send it to some film festivals and search distribution. Our goal is to burn and sell 1,000 DVD's.

About me: I am a filmmaker and journalist based in L.A., born and raised in Barcelona, Spain. I had never thought about politics before moving to America. But living here, what other choice do we have? My goal is to tell stories with a camera that enhance sensibility, knowledge and justice.

Yeah! post-production started - December 08, 2004

Last night, Tuesday December 7 2004, I SMSed Johl at 2:30 AM..:

"I started transfering the minidisc sound files to the MAC and we got the interview of the Marine from Texas. We were fucking lucky. I just hope he is still alive. We should find out... Good job. Good night."

This is the beginning of the post-production of our guerilla film. Today I have to return the sound kit, which my friend Loretta, from NPR, lent us. It was great equipment: pro mic, boom, minidisc, headphones. But never trust a fucking minidisc. When it would reach the end of the disc's capacity it would delete entire tracks and start recording over them! I fucking couldn't figure out how to avoid it. Next time, to capture sound digitally and independently, anything that burns on a fucking tape. So much good material went to hell this way... We'll see how the sound was picked up by the cam mic on the miniDV tapes. I'll let you know of everything.

Peace. Love. It was so incredible meeting everybody we had the chance to speak with. I, myself, evolved a lot in my political thoughts. But that's something I'll elaborate in the future.

You guys are the best.

Jordi
