Elana & Elena's Blog - Archived Entry

Elana/Elena:

Why am I taking a trip? Bush et al do not represent us or what we think is in the best interest of our country and the world. We think it's important to engage in the democratic process and we think it's important to help engage those who may have been disenfranchised, particularly by the current administration.

Lives in: New York, NY Going to: Pennsylvania, Tennessee (and more?)

About me: Elana: I work for a nonprofit. Elena: I work in the library of a public schools complex..

Get ready for action - September 19, 2004

We have been working more and more with other grassroots groups in NYC as the big day draws nearer, trying to find ways to get as many people as possible effectively involved in swing state action. I have officially become obsessed with the state of Pennsylvania. My father grew up in Pittsburgh and I recently heard myself asking him questions like, "What is it really like to be a Pennsylvanian?" or "Tell me about the Allegheny. Really." He looks at me a little funny. I want to be inside their heads, is that wrong? Each time DV NY takes a trip there, it is starting to feel more and more like the promised land. And everyone glistens with electoral power.

Info for an upcoming training in coordination with two local groups is below:

Women for Kerry NY (womenforkerryny@gmail.com), Kerry Village (www.kerryvillage.org) and Driving Votes NY will be conducting a superspecial training Monday, September 20th. Get confident before you hit the streets and take back our country.

Whether you've done voter outreach and registration before or not, this is meant to be an opportunity to improve your confidence and skill.

ALL POLITICS IS PERSONAL The first 45 minutes will be led by Women for Kerry NY, who will teach you techniques for improving the quality of your interactions with swing voters. The training will teach you to talk about Kerry's policies versus Bush's using personal value statements. Connect with swing voters on a personal level.

WHAT'S YOUR NAME? During the second 45 minutes, Driving Votes NY will teach you some techniques to register voters more efficiently and effectively (how to approach people, how to counter common excuses, common mistakes).

There will be opportunity to sign up for upcoming actions with Women for Kerry NY, Kerry Village and Driving Votes after the trainings.

WHEN: Monday, Sept. 20, 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
WHERE: 590 Madison Ave, in the atrium, entrance near 56th st.
