Reflections from NY - July 29, 2004Here in N.Y. we are getting pumped for these last 14 weeks until the election. Last night the NY chapter had a great meeting. We discussed our plans for the month of August, scheduled two trips down to Phili and started discussing plans for our first fundraiser. During our discussion about the fundraiser an interesting topic came up...we started to talk about how our fundraiser should be billed. Is Driving Votes strictly an anti-Bush effort, or are we pro-something. We are certainly pro-increased voter participation, we are pro- certain values, but does this mean we are pro-Kerry? Does Kerry answer all these pros? Personally, I think he does. I think he is more than just "better than Bush" I think he is more than just "the lesser of two evils." I don't think he is perfect by any means. Watching the convention last night, listening to the speeches, the Dems approach definitely seems to be introducing Kerry to the public. Introducing him as the next President, as the man we want to represent us. I think this approach is a good one. I find it really exciting to watch the politicians speak. Al Sharpton gave a very good speech. I hope Kerry gives one of equal caliber tonight. I hope it is one that will make everyone excited about voting for Kerry rather than just voting anti-Bush.
